does anyone know if or how the rubber stopper can be replaced on the launcher?
I love the simplicity of the product, easy for elementary school demonstrations. However the ground prongs are difficult to secure into hard soil. I think I need to look into building a launch pad or buying one. On one demonstration the rocket fell while the child was pulling the launch cord and we had a ground rocket. Luckily I’m an over safety conscience teacher and students were back behind me
I used this to show newton's law and the engineering involved in launching a payload (an egg) and recovering it safely. 10 of 16 were sucessfull (including one that was more a lawn torpedo than a rocket). The students were engaged and had alot of fun building their own rockets and capsules and launching them. I teach in Florida and with the foliage so sensitive to fire, the water propelled rockets were non hazardous and I could allow the students to launch their rockets without having to worry about fires. Too COOL!
The launcher was well built and fun to use. The only challenge I had with using it was that I had a difficult time placing the bottle on the stopper of the launcher. I doubt this is avoidable though in any type of bottle launcher.
The best tool for getting your students excited about rocketry. Can be used for inquiry lessons. I've owned mine for 9 or 10 years. I've custom built a wooden launch platform base and bolted the launcher onto it. This allows for faster launch times between students because you don't have to move the launcher when the ground becomes saturated with water. [...]
This product was much easier to use than I imagined. I used it with a class of 8th graders in our study of rockets for space science, and they just loved it! Their interest levels were incredibly high. The papers included do not provide much support for designing lessons, but a quick search of the NASA site provides many ideas/lessons/simulations to give students the best learning experience possible.
Used it the day I recieved it. Kids and grandkids involved in bottle rocket hobby and we launched all day long with the tug of a cord.
Can adapt it to slide into a wooden base. Well made. Have to stomp it to break it!
