Your entire class can create a circuit by making a large circle and touching fingertips. The bulb/ball works only when the circuit is complete, so you can demonstrate open and closed circuits by having various students in the circle "untouch" fingers. I had heard that a student does not conduct the small current well if he/she is dehydrated. One day, when the demo did not work, I asked the young woman whom I knew was a long-distance runner (and likely dehydrated) to step out of the circle--and it worked!
My children were fascinated with it.

I have seen this before as in party favor bags at kids' birthday parties, but until I saw the description on this web site I didn't realize it could be used with a group of people as a scientific demonstration. I can't comment on its durability.

The students were totally amazed and everyone wanted to do it. I did have one student that it did not work with. Any suggestions about that?
