This little neon wand is not only a great tool to teach about electricity, it's also a great safety device. I use it to check for static charges on my van de graaph, tesla coil and my wimhurst machine. Plus it shows you any current leakage etc, which can be a real life saver.

Works very nice with Van de Graaff. Also works with a large "charged" balloon in a very dark place. Kids get a kick out of it.

The wand was disappointing because with the generator I have (the hand crank one), the light was not visible. Certainly one couldn't see it in daylight, even at close range. I'm returning this product as it didn't make an effective demo.
