The beads are great to use to make bracelets then have students go outside and let the ooohs and awwweeees begin. Then have students determine which sunscreen protects the best from UV light.

My daughter is using this in a sunscreen experiment. She has not completed it yet, but we think it will work. We were able to melt the beads flat to make for better handling and application of sunscreen.

Cons:
Inaccurate, Turn colors too fast.....
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I think they turn colors far too fast. Just walk out the door with them and zap their colors.
I don't see any degree of color change. White or very, very bright.....
They are fun but I doubt their accuracy.
Awsome bright colors when in the sun

We experimented with sunglasses, sunscreen, windows, and screen doors to see which one had the best UV protection. Kids love the beads and want me to order some for them!

Hi,
The 200 beads variety turned out to have a huge differance in the qty from each color.
Unless I get an equal # for each color guarantee, I am not likely to purchase those again.
ArborScientific Response:The beads come assorted, and unfortunately we cannot control the color mix.
The kids just love these beads!

We used these beads to make bracelets for our school trip to the Ocean. The day we made the bracelets it was cloudy, so when we go to the ocean they will really see the benefit. It was a great way to help the kids understand about the importance of sunscreen and the effects of UV rays to the skin. Thanks so much!

As an entire group when asked how they liked the UV beads my gifted second grade students responded, "COOL!" The brightly colored beads made it very helpful to teach my students about UV Radiation and its harmful effects. One student told me, "We don't need to check the weather channel anymore to see if we need sunscreen we can just put on our UV bracelet or necklace."

UV rays cause sunburn and skin cancer. They are odorless, tasteless, and invisible. The beads provide an easy way to demonstrate to patients that UV rays are with them all the time, and provide emphasis about sun protection.

Students applied these beads to specific, real life problems. They discovered the amount of UV radiation in the shade, how much penetrated sunglasses, hats, and different SPF sunblock. They had so much fun, they want to use them for their science fair projects :)
