I do science programs for kids. I will use the standing wave machine then. One problem is that the machine doesn't work unless I hold it in my hands and tilt it downward to the left. When sitting straight up on a table the machine's motor arm does not engage. Thus, no waves are created. I've only been using it a couple of weeks, and have tried to work out the bugs, but so far no luck.

Requires batteries. I had hoped/expected it would come with a power cord. It does not. A power cord with an adapter can be purchased from [...] but it would be nice if the device came with a cord.

The "wow" factor was in full effct with this device. Students were cheering, hoping for the next standing wave to form. The colors added an extra effect by being able to adjust the frequency of strobing. Students were able to clearly see nodes, antinodes, crests, troughs, etc.

A fantastic product, my students and I were amazing at all the different colors and waves created by the wave machine. Who would have guessed the wave was a simple string?! As a matter of fact another teacher saw it and ordered one as a Christmas gift.

This is a very eye-catching piece of "science equipment". I use it to discuss the basic parts of a wave, frequency, and a waves relationship to light and sound. Also, it is big enough to be used as a great model/in-class demonstration.Furthermore, it really gets the student's attention. It is cost friendly, and easy to use.
