Our Philosophy . . .Often, the most difficult part of a science
fair project is the idea. What will this project be about?
Sometimes, the idea can come from observations
the child makes of an object or phenomena. An interesting object can get a
child thinking like a scientist and generate ideas for a great science fair
project. That’s where we can help.
Look through our online catalog with your
child. Order something that sounds interesting. We’ve made some
suggestions for good idea-generating products in the areas listed to the
left..
When the item arrives, play with it. If there
are instructions, follow the instructions. If there are no instructions,
just play. Don’t mention the science fair. As children explore, they will
probably get curious about something. They’ll ask a question like “I wonder
what would happen if…” or “What would it do if…” The parent’s job is to
listen and write down these questions. Those questions are science fair
ideas. Any question that can be tested can become a science fair project.
It may be tough, but try to let the idea come
from your child. A project that comes from them will be more educational
and valuable for them than an idea that is suggested by someone else.
The parent’s job is to guide the child and
help them organize the project. It is not to do the project for them.
Children learn the most from doing scientific investigations that they’ve
generated themselves. Prepackaged science fair projects don’t offer
the kind of exploration that young scientists need. |
