Note: the meter is not sensitive to the rather narrow frequency of UV light emitted from artificial sources such as a UV flashlight or UV lamp.This affordable UV meter detects both atmospheric UV-A and UV-B light ranging from 400 nm to 280 nm. It displays the current atmospheric UV index and the UV Irradiance. UV-A and UV-B are the UV rays that penetrate the atmosphere. A graphical meter alongside a UV color code chart makes it easy to determine the level of UV risk.
IMPORTANT: Product Usage Notes
1. The UV index and UV Irradiance is calculated by averaging the various UV-A and UV-B wavelengths according to the Erythemal Action Spectrum. UV flashlights, UV lamps and other lights that you may have in your classroom emit only one UV frequency; therefore, your UV meter will not give an accurate reading.
2. For consistent and accurate readings, the direction of the UV meter must be oriented so that the UV sensor points directly toward the sunlight.
3. Extreme Temperature and humidity may result in an inaccurate reading 4. Exposure to artificial radiation sources ( UV Lights ) may cause damage to the built in UV sensor. 5. If using glass in an experiment, please note that UV-B cannot go through glass, so the meter cannot get a reading through glass and will just register a zero.
