Additional Details

Blood typing is a method of classifying blood based on the presence or absence of specific proteins, called antigens, on the surface of red blood cells. Blood type, an inherited characteristic, is valuable to know in that it affects medical procedures, such as surgery and transfusions, paternity testing, as well as serving as evidence in criminal investigations. Determining blood type can help provide supporting evidence or eliminate a possible suspect's involvement in a crime. Kit contains enough material for 15 groups. Teacher's Manual and Student Study Guide copymasters are included.

FAQ's

Yes, the kit uses Innovating Science simulated blood, which is safe and non-hazardous, making it suitable for educational settings.

What educational concepts does the Forensic Chemistry of Blood Typing teach?

Students will learn about blood typing, antigen-antibody interactions, and the role of blood analysis in forensic science. The kit also introduces concepts related to the ABO and Rh blood group systems.

Can this kit be used to determine actual blood types?

No, the kit is intended for educational purposes only and uses simulated blood samples. It is not suitable for determining real human blood types.

Can this kit be reused or is it single-use?

The kit is primarily designed as a single-use activity. While some components like trays or mixing sticks may be reused, the simulated blood and anti-sera are intended for one-time use for safety and accuracy.

Do students need prior knowledge of blood types or immunology?

No prior experience is necessary. The kit includes clear instructions and background information, making it suitable for students with no prior exposure to the concepts of blood typing or immunology.
