Additional Details

Ever wonder what stars are made of? Spectroscopes are designed to disperse or separate white light from a star into a very wide spectrum of colors — much wider than a normal prism does. When spread very wide, black lines appear in the spectrum. different light sources!

This Spectroscope with its built-in scale measures light wavelengths from 400nm to 700nm with a precision of +/- 5 nm is a durable economical tool to see and measure different spectra. By separating light into its component colors you can see and contrast differences between fluorescent and incandescent lights. Measure which wavelengths are absorbed by different materials.

Products being sold are not toys. They are for Educational / Laboratory use only. They are not for use by children 12 and under.

Resources

Standards

In using this product, national and states' science education standards are covered. Some examples are provided here. These are representative, however. Check with your state to find the exact standards.

Each kind of atom or molecule can gain or lose energy only in particular discrete amounts and thus can absorb and emit light only at wavelengths corresponding to these amounts. These wavelengths can be used to:

  • Identify the substance
  • Relate colors to wavelengths of light
  • Explain how we see colors of objects
