Giant Newtonian Demonstrator - Newton's Cradle
Show Newton's Third Law to the whole room, not just the front row
The Giant Newtonian Demonstrator scales up the classic Newton's Cradle with five 55 mm steel balls, each suspended by a bifilar line from a sturdy metal frame. Lift and release one ball and one shoots out the opposite side; lift two and two respond. The larger mass makes every collision more visible and more audible than a standard cradle, so students in the back row see the same result as students at the front.
At roughly 12.2"L x 9.4"W x 9.6"H and over 11 lbs, it works as a lecture-hall demo, a hallway or office display, or a hands-on piece for a physics lab table. Suitable from upper elementary through college introductory physics.
Why Teachers Love It
-
Visible from Anywhere in the Room – The larger balls and louder collisions read clearly in a lecture hall, not just at a demo table.
-
Fully Assembled, No Calibration – Steel balls, metal frame, and weighted ABS base arrive ready to swing, straight out of the box.
-
Same Physics, Bigger Impact – Newton's Third Law, momentum conservation, and elastic collisions play out at a scale that holds a room's attention.

What You Can Teach with the Giant Newtonian Demonstrator
Grades 3–5 (Upper Elementary)
- Cause and effect: releasing one ball versus two changes the result predictably
- Observing that motion transfers from one object to another during a collision
Grades 6–8 (Middle School)
- Newton's Third Law: equal and opposite forces during each collision
- Conservation of momentum through a chain of colliding balls
- Predicting outcomes before release, then checking the result against the prediction
High School / AP Physics
- Conservation of kinetic energy in elastic collisions
- Impulse and force duration during short collision times (qualitative)
- Testing how ball count and release height change the outcome, and explaining why
Products being sold are not toys. They are for Educational / Laboratory use only. They are not for use by children 12 and under.
